THIS DAY IN THE CHURCH YEAR
August 15th is the day when the Church remembers God's grace and mercy to the virgin Mary, Mother of Our Lord Jesus Christ.  In Martin Luther's words, "Mary confesses that the foremost work God did for her was that He regarded her . . . For where it comes to pass that God turns His face toward one to regard him, there is nothing but grace & salvation, and all gifts & works must follow . . . she does not say that men will speak all manner of good of her, praise her virtues, exalt her virginity or her humility, or sing of what she has done.  But for the one thing alone, that God regarded her, men will call her blessed."  We thank and praise our heavenly Father for regarding us as He did Mary and all the saints who have gone before us!

This past Monday, one of the finest hymwriters of the 20th century, Anglican bishop Timothy Dudley-Smith, went to be with His Lord at the age of 97.  It's only fitting to share with you Pastor Dudley-Smith's most well-known hymn:Tell Out, My Soul, the Greatness of the Lord, a paraphrase of Mary's song of praise recorded in the Gospel of Luke. If you haveLutheran Service Bookhandy, why not turn to hymn 935 and sing along with the video below?

Yours in Christ,
